Travelog: Bryce day two

Today we went into Bryce and hiked around through the snow up to some of the lookouts.

Then it was thanksgiving redux for lunch. A nap and then the guns came out. Shot off the handguns, no biggy, the fun ones were the AR15 and the AK47.

I want the girl child with me when the Zombie Apocalypse hits. First time firing any gun…ever. She’s a natural marksman with the AR. She hit everything she aimed at.

There was elk chili for dinner.

Resturant Tour: A Float Sushi

This is a Pasadena staple. It’s been around for years.

The sushi is not perfection, but it is damn good for the price and the fact that it is made in batches and sent floating around on boats. They do have someone culling it once it’s been around a few too many times.  There’s a bit of Sashimi coming around, most of the fair is hardier fish or mixes (like spicy tuna rolls, or spicy crab roll in a jalapeno and then tempura fried, spider rolls, etc.). You’re not going to get the best Spanish Mackerel or elitist belly tuna…but it’ll be good for a sushi craving when you want to try your luck at what’s on the plate (sometimes it’s a guess …although if you ask they’ll tell you), you can order specific sushi, but what’s the fun in that. This place is far more about the lighter ambiance than the food.

Take a few friends, have a couple large Japanese beers and share plates. Our discovery…the 12year old (who asked for this place as a B-day dinner [as opposed to a more upscale sushi bar here in Pas we often dine at]) likes uni. Who knew that fish eggs ruled for that age group.

But it’s a decent sushi place with good food and a fun atmosphere…A Float is good for a meal.

Deputy Joe’s Utah Dialect: hear it

One of the things I often read in reviews of The Deputy Joe series is that “nobody talks like that,” referring to Joe’s dialect in the story.

Well, meet Waldo Wilcox, rancher …he’s first at about the 2min marker. He’s from the Green River area which is about as isolated as where Joe lives although being more east and north. Panguitch is located more towards the southern end of the state and almost dead center east to west. You can see Green River on the map here and then look for Bryce Canyon down and left.

Should you be as big of a geek as I am, you can go to American English Dialects which is attempting to record, find news recordings on places like YouTube, and map the various dialect variation in the United States.

Vegas Baby!

We’re off to Vegas this weekend.

SG has a Bowling Tournament…yeah, you can take the trash out of the trailer but you can’t take the trailer out of the trash (snort). Hey, it’s the social thing for him. Friday we drive up, probably do sushi Fri. night and call it early. SG bowls at noon on Sat. and we come home on Sun. If I’d had enough notice, I’d have arranged a book signing…oh well.

Sat. night were going to see John Pinette. I’ll post photos when I get back.

Although he didn’t die, but the idiot who was drinking with him did…

Both soldiers, joined by a third man, were drinking alcohol and watching football at the time of the Sunday night incident, authorities said.

Yeah, so Einstein whips out a pistol to “scare” the hiccups out of his friend and shoots him in the face, you know, because he’s drunk as a skunk. Killed him. But at least he cured the guy’s hiccups. @.@
